David Malysheff

David Malysheff is an award‑winning Director of Photography with over 40 years of film and television experience. He has filmed on five continents for national and international broadcasters, and for hundreds of commercial, corporate, and documentary clients.

Across his career David has shot or led numerous one‑hour and feature‑length documentaries, including The Immortal Beaver (2008), a one‑hour HD film for History Television about the legendary de Havilland Beaver bush plane featuring Harrison Ford.

Aviation and adventure storytelling run through many of these projects, alongside international work that has taken him from Africa and India to the Hawaiian Islands. Projects have included: The Fires That Burn, Checklist: A Measure of Evil, Singing Home the Bones: A Poet Becomes Himself, The Royal Doulton Story, and Mama June: A Different Perspective on AIDS.

David has also built a substantial body of work with Indigenous and First Nations stories. He served as Director of Photography on APTN series such as Tiga Talk, Tribal Police Files and Down2Earth, and spent five seasons as a camera operator on the popular food series Moosemeat and Marmalade. His documentary credits in this area include A Forgotten Legacy: A Spirit of Reclamation, Kuper Island: Return to the Healing Circle, From Bella Coola to Berlin, and Lacondon Maya: Listen to My Story.

Whether working as Director of Photography, producer, or director, David thrives in demanding locations—filming from helicopters, Zodiacs, and horseback, from Africa to Alaska—while maintaining the highest visual and editorial standards. He draws on his experience as a producer, director, audio recordist, and editor to guide projects from development through post‑production and ensure they meet and exceed rigorous professional expectations.
